A Unique Learning Environment

Respect, Kindness, and Consideration for Others

Our goal as teachers is to foster these concepts in our students by serving as examples in our interactions with students, staff, and families at the Holland School.    Educationally, each student is treated as an 'individual' and provided with the teaching methods that best serve his needs.  We know that children learn in different ways and at different rates.  We allow for this through a mixed age group setting, a variety of materials, techniques, and individual and small group lessons.  Both the gifted and challenged learner's needs are met without labeling.  Each student is able to advance without such obstacles as having to 'stay with the group', set 'grade level books and instruction', or just plain 'busy work'.  The interests of the student are taken in to account and used as a catalyst for academic skills and topics of study.  Our students become young researchers and problem solvers while acquiring basic skills needed for higher education and life lessons.

   Montessori Curriculum and Philosophy

Our classrooms utilize a full spectrum of 'hands on' Montessori materials.   Our philosophy is guided by Montessori principles.  Students are treated with respect and are expected to treat others in the same manner.   We teach to the strengths of our students and work on the weaknesses.  Students learn responsibility for self and take an active role in their education.  Our staff guides the student along this path.  The student learns to meet both social and academic expectations.
